The County Government invites applications from qualified and dedicated individuals to serve as Support Staff. This recruitment is part of the County’s ongoing effort to strengthen institutional capacity and enhance operational efficiency across departments and facilities.
Support Staff provide essential services that ensure the smooth functioning of County offices, hospitals, schools, and other public institutions. Their duties contribute directly to hygiene, order, and overall productivity in the workplace.
This position is well suited for individuals with practical experience or training in areas such as hospitality, catering, laundry, tailoring, or machine operation, and who take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization.
Job Summary
Working under the supervision of a senior officer, Support Staff will perform various operational and manual tasks to ensure efficient service delivery within County departments and institutions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Support Staff shall perform duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Carrying out basic repair, maintenance, and operational duties within their area of specialization, such as cooking, tailoring, laundry services, or machine operation.
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in work areas, equipment, and facilities to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
- Assisting in meal preparation and service within County catering units, hospitals, or other designated facilities.
- Performing laundry duties including washing, drying, ironing, and proper handling of uniforms, linens, and related items.
- Undertaking minor repairs of tools and equipment, ensuring they remain in good condition and stored appropriately after use.
- Supporting tailoring activities such as sewing, mending, or uniform production in County institutions.
- Operating simple machinery and assisting in maintaining efficiency in workshops, offices, or production units.
- Adhering to occupational safety and health standards in all assigned duties.
- Performing any other related duties as assigned by a supervisor or departmental head.
All Support Staff are expected to maintain professionalism, discipline, and confidentiality, and to demonstrate readiness to work in various County locations as operational needs require.
Areas of Specialization
Depending on departmental needs, Support Staff may be assigned to the following divisions:
Catering and Food & Beverage Services:
Assist in meal preparation, food service, and kitchen maintenance. Duties include cleaning utensils, preparing ingredients, arranging dining areas, and ensuring compliance with health standards.
Laundry Services:
Handle washing, drying, ironing, and folding of linens, uniforms, and garments, while ensuring proper use of detergents and machinery.
Tailoring and Clothing Production:
Assist in sewing, mending, and uniform production within hospitals, schools, or vocational centers.
Machine Operation:
Operate and maintain simple machinery in workshops, production units, or offices, including cleaning and basic servicing.
Hospitality and Cleaning Services:
Maintain cleanliness in offices, kitchens, and common areas; assist in guest reception; and support preparation for official events or functions.
Requirements for Appointment
To qualify for appointment, an applicant must:
- Be a Kenyan citizen (attach a copy of a valid National Identification Card).
- Hold at least a Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
- Have attained a minimum of Division IV in KCE or Grade D (Plain) in KCSE.
- Possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
- Hold a Government Trade Test Certificate Grade III or a Certificate from a recognized institution in any of the following fields:
- Clothing and Textile
- Hospitality
- Machine Operation
- Catering
- Food and Beverage

Work Environment and Supervision
- Support Staff will work under the supervision of a senior officer. Their duties may involve:
- Rotational assignments in departments such as Health, Education, Administration, or Hospitality.
- Indoor or outdoor work, depending on assignment.
- Physically active tasks such as cleaning, lifting, operating machines, or serving food.
- The County Government will provide orientation and training to ensure all Support Staff understand operational procedures, safety standards, and ethical requirements of public service.
