3,000 Vacancies Open at Kakamega County Government

The County Government of Kakamega, through the County Youth Service and Women Empowerment Programme, is inviting applications from qualified residents to fill 3,000 positions of service men and women. The recruitment is guided by the Constitution of Kenya 2010 (Article 55), the County Governments Act No. 17 of 2012, and the Kakamega County Youth and Women Service Act No. 5 of 2019.

This programme was established to empower youth and women by offering structured opportunities that promote employment, skills development, discipline, and sustainable livelihoods. It also seeks to improve living conditions across the county by involving participants in community-based projects.

Programme Overview
The County Youth Service and Women Empowerment Programme has two main objectives:

  • To provide employment and empowerment opportunities for young people and women in Kakamega County.
  • To enhance the quality of life in the county through vital community services.

Successful applicants will be deployed within their local areas and assigned tasks under close supervision. Besides short-term engagement, the initiative focuses on instilling discipline, offering technical and life-skills training, and preparing recruits for future careers or self-employment.

The training component includes regular sessions at county polytechnics and paramilitary-style orientation designed to build resilience, teamwork, and responsibility.

Positions Available

  • Service Men and Women – County Youth Service and Women Empowerment Programme (3,000 posts)

Recruits will form part of a county workforce responsible for sanitation, security, and infrastructure maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
Participants will report to the Programme Director or designated supervisors. Duties will include:

  • Road maintenance within community areas
  • Clearing bushes and improving the environment
  • Cleaning and maintaining drainage systems
  • Cleaning public markets
  • General office cleaning and support for county facilities
  • Providing basic security and sentry services
  • Any other lawful duties assigned in line with community service

Entry Requirements
Applicants must:

  • Be Kenyan citizens with a valid national ID card or passport
  • Reside in Kakamega County within a designated community area
  • Meet the age requirements:
    • Men: 18–35 years
    • Women: 35–55 years
  • Be physically fit and in good health
  • Be able to perform manual tasks
  • Pass an aptitude test during selection
  • Present original documents for verification
  • Commit to attending polytechnic training twice weekly

Shortlisted candidates will undergo paramilitary training.

Training
Selected recruits will participate in:

  • Paramilitary orientation to promote discipline, endurance, and teamwork
  • Technical training in sanitation, environmental management, construction basics, and safety
  • Life-skills training in teamwork, financial literacy, time management, and community responsibility

Terms of Engagement

  • A monthly stipend will be provided
  • Participants must balance assigned duties with compulsory training sessions
  • Work will be supervised and guided by programme regulations and code of conduct
  • The programme prepares recruits for long-term employability and entrepreneurship
