Top Secular Kalenjin artist Michael Aaron Rotich, popularly known by his stage name Sweetstar, has disclosed that he has constructed a church in his home village, marking what he describes as one of the most meaningful projects of his life.
The secular sensation revealed the news during a function at Bomet Green Stadium, an event hosted by gospel artist Shillah Mark.
Sweetstar announced that he will soon hold an official ceremony to open the newly built church, saying the project reflects his personal faith and the values he has carried throughout his life and career.
He openly declared that he is a committed Christian and is working diligently to ensure that his spiritual journey aligns with his ultimate goal—making it to the kingdom of heaven.
“Mimi nimejenga kanisa kule nyumbani kwa sababu nimeokoka lakini sijabadilisha mienendo,” he said, acknowledging that although he has been saved, he is still striving to shape his character and actions to match his faith.
The celebrated artist described his rise in the music industry as a journey shaped by divine intervention. He credited his success to God’s guidance, noting that his home church played a central role in raising, mentoring, and grounding him.
According to him, building a church is his way of giving back to the community and honoring the foundation that shaped his identity.

Sweetstar also dismissed widespread rumors linking him to the controversial Illuminati group, a claim often targeted at successful musicians.
He firmly stated that he recognizes only God as his provider and that such accusations are baseless and misleading.
He further revealed that the church he built belongs to the PEFA denomination—the same church where his parents prayed and where he spent most of his childhood.
The decision to construct a PEFA church, he said, reflects a deep personal connection and a desire to preserve the spiritual legacy of his family.
With a career spanning more than 15 years, Sweetstar remains one of the most consistent and enduring Kalenjin artists. His longevity, he noted, is a direct product of faith, discipline, and commitment to the calling he believes God placed on his life.
As preparations continue for the church’s official opening, Sweetstar maintains that his mission is simple: to serve God, uplift his community, and continue using his gift to inspire.
