| Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna |
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has spoken of what he believes was a deliberate plan to push him out of his position as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement.
He shared the account during a fundraising event for widows in Bomachoge Borabu, where he told the gathering that political figures close to President William Ruto questioned his role in the party during the recent ODM twentieth anniversary dinner in Mombasa.
He described the atmosphere as tense and said he sensed a move to unsettle him before the night was over.
Sifuna said his criticism of the president’s leadership had placed him in the centre of political friction. He argued that those around the president viewed him as an obstacle and hoped to weaken his standing inside ODM.
Several MPs from the Kenya Moja Alliance stood with him at the event and repeated their objections to the government’s handling of national affairs. Their presence appeared to underline a shared view that the party was drifting into uncertain ground.
The Mombasa celebration marked two decades of ODM’s presence in national politics and reflected on the long career of the late Raila Odinga. President Ruto, who once belonged to the party in its early days, attended the dinner and became part of the day’s broader political conversation.
Sifuna said that agreements signed between ODM and the ruling party had not been honoured. He pointed to rising insecurity among young people as one of the key areas where the government had not lived up to its commitments.
He told party members to be cautious when speaking about the broad-based arrangement with the government, saying only Ruto and Raila understood its true nature.
His comments revived questions about the party’s direction and hinted at deeper divisions that may shape ODM’s future.
