Everything had been planned meticulously for Thursday, December 18, at Cherono’s family home in Kipkelion, Kericho County. From the wedding car to the venue, even small details had been carefully organized and funds of KSh 100,000 already spent.
But all of it is now a painful reminder of dreams that will never come true.
On Sunday, November 16, a church elder called Rotich with a sense of urgency that immediately worried him. He initially thought it was about wedding preparations, but the conversation quickly took a tragic turn.
He was told that his fiancée, Dorcas Cherono, had passed away the day before, on Saturday, November 15.

The news left him stunned, confused, and heartbroken, struggling to accept the sudden loss.
Cherono, just 20 years old, had been a vibrant, dedicated young woman.
On the day of her death, she had been at church with the youth, encouraging them to stay committed to Christ and His work.
In what would become her final act, she led the young congregation in praise and worship, playing a drum and singing with energy and devotion.
She even reminded them of the upcoming pre-wedding and checked if the members were ready to support her in the worship department.
Then, suddenly, Cherono collapsed on the altar. Those around her rushed to help, giving first aid and transporting her to a hospital, but it was too late.

She was pronounced dead, leaving her family, friends, and church members in shock. Her sudden passing has left a void that cannot easily be filled.
For Rotich, the loss is deeply personal and overwhelming. He described sleepless nights, endless thoughts, and a sense of being utterly lost.
“I cannot think of ever marrying again. I had imagined my future with her as my wife. Now, all that remains is a dream that will never come true,” he said through tears.
The tragedy has cast a heavy shadow over what should have been a joyful season.
A young couple’s love story, meant to begin with a grand wedding, has ended in grief and heartbreak.
Brian Rotich now faces the painful task of saying goodbye to the person he had planned to spend his life with, a loss that words cannot fully capture.
