Police are investigating the killing of a 70-year-old man whose body was found inside his house in Nchiru, Tigania West, Meru County, in a case that has shocked residents.
The deceased was identified as Joseph Kabiti. According to police, Kabiti was found lying on his bed at his home in the Ntori area several hours after he had died.
Officers who visited the scene said there were clear signs that his death was not natural.
Police revealed that Kabiti had a deep cut on the back of his head extending towards the neck, raising serious concern that he was violently attacked.
The injury suggested the attacker used a sharp object and struck him from behind. Investigators believe the wound may have caused instant or severe trauma, though this will be confirmed after an autopsy.
Kabiti lived alone, and neighbours became worried after failing to see him for hours, prompting a check that led to the discovery of his body.
There were no immediate signs of forced entry into the house, a detail that detectives are closely examining as they try to establish whether the suspect or suspects were known to the victim.
Police confirmed that three suspects have already been arrested in connection with the murder. However, authorities cautioned that investigations are still ongoing and the motive for the killing has not yet been established.
The suspects are being questioned as detectives piece together Kabiti’s last movements and interactions before his death.
The body was moved to a local mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death and gather further forensic evidence. Police say the autopsy results will play a key role in strengthening the case.
Authorities also noted that violent crimes have been increasing in parts of Tigania, with several cases reportedly linked to land-related disputes.
While police have not confirmed whether Kabiti’s murder is connected to such disputes, they acknowledged it as one of the angles under investigation.
Residents have expressed fear and anger over the incident, calling for increased patrols and faster action against criminals in the area.
Police urged members of the public to remain calm and share any information that may help bring all those responsible to justice.
