The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has formally approved a one-year extension of internship contracts for all serving Junior School Teacher Interns.
The renewed contracts will run from 1st January 2026 to 31st December 2026, fully aligned with the Teacher Internship Policy and Guidelines (2019).
According to the circular dated 27th November 2025, all interns will continue serving in their current stations, but only upon formally confirming acceptance of the new contract terms.
TSC has directed county offices to ensure a smooth transition to avoid any interruption of learning when the current contracts lapse on 31st December 2025.
To fast-track the process, counties must issue extension offer letters to all serving interns immediately and no later than 20th December 2025. Interns are required to either accept or decline the offer through clearly outlined steps.
Interns choosing to accept must sign the acceptance section of the offer and provide a valid Personal Accident Cover for the entire new engagement period.
Those declining must sign the decline section and return all institutional property in their possession, clearing with their respective Heads of Institution.
County Directors must also update every intern’s acceptance or decline status on the Entry/Exit Portal to ensure proper documentation and tracking.
Further, counties are required to compile and submit detailed lists of interns, issued offer letters, and county summaries of acceptances or declines to the Director–Staffing.
These must be sent via the official email channels by 23rd January 2026, with copies forwarded to the Deputy Director–Staffing.
In cases where interns decline the extension, counties are mandated to submit proposals for their replacement.
These replacements must be sourced from existing merit lists and forwarded along with the acceptance and decline summaries for approval by the Commission.
TSC emphasizes strict supervision, compliance, and timely communication throughout the exercise.
The objective is clear: ensure interns fully understand the status of their contracts and guarantee uninterrupted learning as schools resume in January 2026.
The circular concludes by confirming that an official Offer of Extension of Internship Contract Template has been attached for standardized use across all counties.
