A clinical officer at Chemaner Health Center in Bomet County has been arrested after he was accused of sexually assaulting a pregnant woman during a routine medical visit, according to police.
Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander Michael Singa identified the suspect as Eric Langat, also known as Kirinyet. Authorities say the alleged assault occurred inside one of the consultation rooms while the officer was attending to the patient.
According to the police report, the incident came to light after the woman screamed for help, drawing the attention of other staff members and patients within the facility. Witnesses reportedly rushed to the room to find the suspect and the victim in a compromising situation. The suspect is said to have fled immediately after people gathered outside the room.
The matter was formally reported at Chemaner Police Station, triggering a manhunt. Police officers later tracked down and arrested the suspect at a hideout within the area. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.
After the incident, medical personnel and police officers facilitated the victim’s transfer to Longisa County Referral Hospital. There, she underwent a medical examination and received psychological support and counselling. Authorities confirmed that proper medical and forensic procedures were followed to preserve evidence relevant to the case.
Investigators are also reviewing additional claims from a source who alleges that the suspect may have been linked to two previous similar incidents that were never officially reported. The source claims those earlier cases may not have progressed due to the suspect’s alleged close connections with senior medical administrators. Police say these allegations are being treated as leads and will be examined as part of the broader investigation, but they have not yet been independently verified.
Commander Singa stated that the suspect will be arraigned in court once investigators complete the evidence-gathering process. He emphasized that law enforcement will pursue the case fully and urged members of the public to report any similar incidents without fear.
Health and security officials have not yet released further details about internal administrative action at the facility, but inquiries into procedures and supervision at the health center are expected as the case moves forward.
