The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has announced 194 internship and apprenticeship opportunities across multiple departments, offering young Kenyans practical experience in the maritime and logistics sector.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, through a public notice aimed at fresh graduates seeking exposure to real workplace environments.
According to KPA, the internship and apprenticeship program will run for 12 months and is designed to equip participants with hands-on skills and professional knowledge in various operational areas of the authority. The program aims to bridge the gap between academic training and practical industry experience.
“The objective of the KPA internship and apprenticeship program is to provide young adults with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and exposure to the real workplace environment,” the authority said. Participants will engage in departmental tasks under professional supervision, allowing them to develop competence in their field of study.
The authority also specified that eligible applicants must have graduated with a first degree, diploma, or certificate from a recognised institution between January 2023 and December 2025. This ensures that the program targets recent graduates who are yet to secure relevant professional experience.
KPA stressed that applicants must not have previously undertaken any internship program or been exposed to work experience related to their area of study since graduation. The requirement is intended to ensure that the opportunity benefits candidates who genuinely need practical exposure to complement their academic qualifications.
The authority further explained that the internship placements are spread across multiple departments, offering diverse exposure in areas such as operations, finance, human resources, engineering, and logistics. Each intern will receive structured guidance and mentorship to enhance learning and skill acquisition.
Applications are set to close on March 27, 2026, giving prospective candidates two weeks to submit their documents. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the requirements carefully and ensure they meet the eligibility criteria before applying.
KPA’s initiative aligns with the government’s broader youth empowerment and employment strategy. By providing structured internships, the authority aims to enhance employability for young Kenyans while cultivating talent for the maritime industry. The program also seeks to instill professional ethics, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, which are critical for success in formal employment.
This program presents a significant opportunity for fresh graduates to gain industry-relevant experience, build professional networks, and improve their chances of securing permanent employment after completion. Successful applicants will acquire valuable skills while contributing to the growth and efficiency of Kenya Ports Authority operations.
