More than 2,500 Kenyans registered for the Linda Mwananchi movement within hours after the official website launch. Edwin Sifuna unveiled the platform online and shared details about its official social media pages.
Sifuna invited Kenyans to join the movement through the website or by following its social media accounts. Supporters quickly responded, pushing the movement’s combined following to nearly 5,000 across digital platforms.
Supporters registering on the website must pay a Ksh10 fee to confirm their membership. The website requires users to verify that they appear as registered voters before completing the process.
A pop-up message on the website explains that the Ksh10 payment helps prevent automated accounts from inflating membership numbers. The message states that the small contribution helps the organisers confirm genuine supporters of the movement.
The platform sends a confirmation message to members after they complete the registration process. The message thanks supporters and welcomes them into the movement using the phrase “Ahsante! Umejoin Mbogi.”
The website also provides multiple options for supporters who want to assist the movement beyond registration. Registered members can volunteer for mobilisation activities or contribute financial donations to support campaigns.
The movement allows supporters to donate from as little as Ksh10 through the online platform. A message on the donation section describes the initiative as a struggle against a powerful political establishment.
The website includes a dedicated events section where supporters can track upcoming activities organised by the movement. The next rally is scheduled for March 22 in Mombasa County.
Organisers also announced plans to hold a delegates’ convention later in the month. The gathering, named “The People’s NDC,” will take place on March 27 as part of the movement’s mobilisation strategy.
Sifuna previously accused government-linked actors of interfering with efforts to formally register the movement. He alleged that proxies attempted to reserve the Linda Mwananchi name to block its registration as a political party.
