IEBC to Launch Nationwide Voter Registration with Eye-Scanning Technology Ahead of Elections
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to begin a nationwide voter registration exercise on Monday, September 29, as Kenya prepares for the November 27 by-elections and the August 2027 General Elections.
The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise aims to enroll 6.3 million new voters who have successfully applied for their national identification cards over the past few years. This year, the commission will introduce eye-scanning technology to enhance verification and prevent duplication, marking a significant step toward modernizing the registration process.
The launch will take place across all 290 constituencies, with a follow-up comprehensive registration drive planned at the ward level to bring services closer to citizens.
Speaking to Citizen TV ahead of the launch, IEBC Commissioner Alutalala Mukhwana explained that the commission would implement several measures to streamline registration and strengthen transparency. The eye-scanning system is part of these efforts, designed to improve efficiency and public confidence in the electoral process.
The IEBC urges all eligible citizens to participate in the exercise and ensure their names appear on the voters’ roll ahead of the by-elections and the 2027 General Elections.
The introduction of eye-scanning technology reflects the commission’s commitment to inclusive, secure, and well-organized elections, emphasizing the vital role of every citizen in shaping Kenya’s democratic future.
