United Opposition leaders have vowed to remain united and support whoever will ultimately be selected to challenge President William Ruto for the presidency, saying the country’s welfare outweighs individual political ambitions.
The commitment was made during the Democratic Party’s National Delegates Congress at Ufungamano House in Nairobi, where former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi was unveiled as the party leader and confirmed as DP’s presidential candidate.
The meeting brought together senior opposition figures who emphasized solidarity as the foundation of their political strategy.

Among those present were former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua, former Interior Cabinet Secretary and Jubilee presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
The leaders said they would continue engaging to build a broad-based coalition capable of challenging the current administration.
Muturi accused some leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration of attempting to undermine the opposition’s unity.
He claimed there were efforts to field a rival candidate within the Democratic Party to block his confirmation as the party’s flagbearer during the congress.
“They were even looking for a person to compete with me in DP at the NDC so that I do not become the flagbearer,” Muturi said.
He warned that anyone used to create divisions within the opposition was acting against the will of the people.
Despite the challenges, Muturi said the opposition remained focused and hopeful.
He argued that the country was not beyond repair and urged opposition leaders and supporters to stay united and committed to putting Kenya back on the right path through collective leadership.
