Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has formally accepted his appointment as Party Leader of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition.
The appointment was confirmed on Monday, February 2, 2026, during a joint session of the Azimio Council and the National Executive Committee, chaired by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta. Key leadership positions were unanimously approved.
In his new role, Kalonzo will help guide the coalition’s political direction.
He described the position as a collective responsibility aimed at national renewal and expressed gratitude to President Kenyatta, coalition leadership, and constituent parties for the trust.
“I graciously accept my appointment as Party Leader of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition. I thank our chairman, President Uhuru Kenyatta, and all constituent parties for this trust,”
Kalonzo said on X. He also congratulated other leaders appointed to key positions, noting that Azimio represents Kenyans who value justice, inclusivity, and effective governance.
“This is bigger than any individual; it is about Kenya. I urge my fellow countrymen and women not to despair. Together, we will offer principled leadership focused on national renewal,” he added.
Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition brings together multiple political parties under a broad alliance, positioning itself as an alternative governing force that emphasizes unity and inclusive leadership.
Among other appointments, Suba MP Caroli Omondi was named Secretary General, while former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia was appointed Executive Director.
The coalition said the appointments were necessary adjustments prompted by evolving political circumstances, aimed at strengthening internal coordination and effectiveness.
“These changes are part of a deliberate effort to reposition and revitalize the coalition,” the statement added. “The goal is to foster greater cohesion, effectiveness, and unity as the coalition advances its agenda for the nation.”
The meeting chaired by President Kenyatta brought together senior coalition leaders to review the party’s organisational structure, political environment, and long-term strategy.
Kalonzo’s elevation to Party Leader is intended to provide Azimio with a clear political anchor, leveraging his experience in national politics and coalition-building.
The leadership reshuffle comes as Azimio seeks to consolidate its support base, maintain relevance in national discourse, and present itself as a cohesive and credible political force ahead of upcoming elections.
