Fresh details have emerged in court regarding William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The revelations relate to Gachagua’s hospitalisation in October 2024.
Cardiologist Dan Gikonyo testified before court on Wednesday, May 13. He disclosed that President Ruto personally called him about Gachagua’s condition.
Doctor Confirms Presidential Call
According to Gikonyo, the President contacted him while Gachagua received treatment at Karen Hospital. The doctor said Ruto wanted updates regarding the patient’s health status.
Gikonyo told the court that he informed the President about ongoing medical examinations. He promised that doctors would provide updates after completing the tests.
The cardiologist insisted he first sought permission from Gachagua before discussing any details. According to his testimony, the former Deputy President approved the communication.
“When I said that I had to seek clearance from the patient, which I did, he gave me permission,” Gikonyo stated in court.
Hospitalisation Followed Senate Proceedings
Gachagua reportedly developed chest complications during his impeachment hearing at the Senate in October 2024. Doctors later admitted him to Karen Hospital for treatment and evaluation.
The court heard that medical specialists conducted several tests after his admission. These included imaging scans, laboratory tests, and echocardiogram examinations.
Lawyers questioned the doctor during a tense cross-examination session in court. The legal team focused heavily on the credibility of medical evidence presented.
