UDA Politician Resigns From Elective Position

 The City Hall in Nairobi.

Githurai Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Deonysias Mwangi Waithera has resigned from the Nairobi County Assembly, citing frustrations with the county’s leadership.

Waithera confirmed his decision in an interview with Kenyans.co.ke after submitting a resignation letter to the Speaker of the County Assembly on Wednesday, September 17.

The MCA, elected on the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, accused the Nairobi County Executive of systemic failure in implementing development projects and providing essential services to residents.

“My people continue to suffer because of unfulfilled promises and stalled projects. I can no longer be part of an administration that neglects its duty,” Waithera stated.

His resignation comes against the backdrop of a widening rift between several ward representatives and Governor Johnson Sakaja. The conflict has intensified in recent months, with MCAs blaming the Executive for failing to address pressing concerns such as road maintenance, water supply, and waste management.

Political observers warn that Waithera’s move may deepen the standoff between the Assembly and the Governor, potentially slowing down legislative and budgetary processes in the county.

Neither Governor Sakaja nor his office had issued a response by press time.
