Nottingham Forest have parted ways with manager Ange Postecoglou after a disastrous start to his tenure, which ended abruptly following a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
The decision came just minutes after the final whistle at City Ground, marking the end of a brief and turbulent spell for the Australian coach.
In an official statement posted on X, the club said: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The club will make no further comment at this time.”
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, visibly frustrated during the game, reportedly left his seat midway through the match.
His early departure was viewed by many fans as a sign that Postecoglou’s fate had already been decided.
The announcement was confirmed shortly after full-time, underlining the growing impatience at the club.
Postecoglou had been appointed on September 9, just months after leading Tottenham Hotspur to Europa League success and earning praise for his attacking style of play.
His arrival at Nottingham Forest was met with optimism, as supporters hoped he could replicate his success in North London.
However, that optimism quickly faded. Forest failed to win any of their first eight matches under his guidance, recording six defeats and just two draws.
During his final pre-match press conference on Friday, Postecoglou appeared defiant despite growing speculation about his future.
“If I am given time at a club,” he said, “it always ends with me and a trophy.” Yet, the time he was afforded at the City Ground proved far too short for any meaningful transformation.
Nottingham Forest’s season has now been thrown into further uncertainty as they begin the search for their third manager in a matter of months.
The club’s hierarchy is reportedly considering several candidates, with former Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche emerging as a strong contender.
Dyche, known for his disciplined and pragmatic approach, could provide the stability Forest desperately need.
Postecoglou’s dismissal highlights the mounting pressure on managers in modern football and the high expectations placed on clubs fighting to remain competitive in the Premier League.
For Forest, the decision reflects both ambition and desperation—a gamble that the next appointment will finally bring consistency to a team still searching for its identity.
