The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced over 9,000 teaching vacancies across various levels of education, aimed at filling positions left by teachers who exited the service through natural attrition.
The recruitment drive, made public in a notice issued on Tuesday, November 25, seeks to address staffing gaps in schools nationwide.
According to the notice, the Commission is looking to fill 7,065 vacancies in primary schools, 12 posts for junior schools, and 2,082 positions for secondary schools.
These positions will be offered on a permanent and pensionable basis, with successful candidates set to serve in public schools across Kenya.
To be considered for the vacancies, applicants must meet several key qualifications. First, applicants must be Kenyan citizens and must be duly registered by the Teachers Service Commission. For primary schools, applicants must hold at least a P1 certificate. For junior and secondary schools, a Diploma in Education is required.
Interested candidates are required to apply online through the TSC’s official recruitment portals: tsc.go.ke or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke The application window closes on December 8, 2025, and all interested individuals must submit their applications before the deadline.
TSC has emphasized that manual applications will not be considered and that applicants should only submit one application. Submitting multiple applications will result in disqualification.
In its notice, TSC clarified that the recruitment process will adhere to the strict guidelines set for the 2025/2026 financial year.
The merit list generated during this recruitment process will be used for any subsequent hiring needs within the same period.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to present their original academic and professional certificates, including the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) or Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), during the selection process.
Successful candidates will be posted to serve in any part of the country. TSC highlighted that there is no guarantee that candidates will be assigned to their preferred county or school.
The Commission also reiterated that the recruitment exercise is free of charge and warned applicants to be cautious of fraudsters who may try to extort money during the application process.
Finally, TSC made it clear that preference will be given to candidates who have never been employed by the Teachers Service Commission.
This means that individuals with previous TSC employment history may be at a disadvantage in the selection process.
With the application deadline fast approaching, prospective candidates are encouraged to ensure they meet all the eligibility requirements and submit their applications on time to be considered for these crucial teaching positions.
