Traffic along the Nairobi Expressway was briefly disrupted after a Range Rover caught fire under unclear circumstances, prompting emergency response and temporary lane closures.
According to a witness who spoke exclusively to jobsnews.co.ke, the vehicle began emitting smoke while in motion before bursting into flames on its way to Mlolongo.
Videos and images circulating online showed the Range Rover engulfed in thick smoke from the front, with the driver absent from the scene.
Emergency services were quickly deployed, and traffic police officers temporarily halted movement on one side of the expressway to allow crews to contain the fire safely.
MOJA Expressway, which manages the highway, confirmed the incident and warned motorists to exercise caution while passing through the affected section.
“Traffic was temporarily disrupted along the Nairobi Expressway near Southern Bypass Entrance B after a vehicle encountered mechanical issues, resulting in combustion,” the service provider stated.
Passengers aboard the Range Rover were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
MOJA Expressway added that its patrol team, working alongside the Kenya Police Service, successfully extinguished the fire while ensuring the safety of other road users.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest it stemmed from a mechanical fault. Authorities emphasized that no other vehicles or individuals were involved when the blaze started.
Motorists were urged to remain vigilant while navigating the expressway, particularly near the Southern Bypass Entrance, as authorities continue to clear the area and investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns for drivers on busy Nairobi highways, underscoring the importance of vehicle maintenance and rapid response by emergency services in preventing casualties and limiting traffic disruptions.
