Cases of sudden deaths in lodging facilities continue to cause concern in Kenya, with the latest incident reported in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
Police confirmed that 58-year-old Yassin Hassan was found dead inside his room at Jiddah Guest House on 12th Street. He had checked into the facility on August 22, 2025, and had been staying there until his death in September.
According to the guest house manager, the discovery was made during a routine check after staff failed to get any response from Hassan’s room.
“I knocked several times, but there was no answer. Out of concern, I peeped through the window and saw him lying motionless on the bed,” the manager said.
Police officers were called to the scene and forced entry into the room. They found Hassan’s body together with several sets of assorted medications. The drugs were collected and preserved as part of ongoing investigations.
The body was later moved to the mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will determine the cause of death. While no signs of foul play were reported, officers noted that the autopsy results would guide their next steps.
The incident adds to a growing number of unexplained deaths in guest houses and lodgings across the country, raising public concern. Security agencies and health officials are now being urged to step up inspections and ensure proper monitoring of such facilities to safeguard patrons.
