The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that rains will affect several regions across the country this week. The advisory covers Central Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, Western, the Rift Valley, the Coast, and South-eastern Lowlands.
The department reported that moderate rains will begin early in the week before intensifying later. Forecasters expect rainfall intensity to increase from Thursday, with isolated heavy downpours likely in several regions.
Officials noted that some areas could experience thunderstorms and widespread showers during afternoons and nighttime hours. The forecast highlights the need for residents to prepare for possible disruptions caused by heavy rainfall.
Rainfall is expected across parts of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and Western Kenya counties. These include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, and Baringo counties.
Other affected counties include Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, and Bomet. Additional counties such as Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok are also expected to receive rainfall.
Residents in Central Kenya counties have also been advised to prepare for increased rainfall during the week. These counties include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi.
Coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and areas around the Tana Delta will experience showers. Morning, afternoon, and nighttime rains are expected in several parts of these coastal regions.
Despite widespread rains elsewhere, northern parts of the country will remain largely sunny and dry. Counties such as Samburu, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will experience minimal rainfall.
The department also warned that daytime temperatures will exceed 30°C in several regions across the country. Coastal, north-eastern, and north-western areas will experience the highest temperatures during the forecast period.
Nighttime temperatures will drop below 10°C in parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley. Cold conditions are also expected in the Central Rift Valley, North Rift, and areas near Mt Kilimanjaro.
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and prepare for changing weather conditions during the week. The department advised communities to monitor updates and take necessary precautions during heavy rainfall events.
