Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has urged Kenyans to elect strong leaders capable of defending the rule of law as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the ongoing Law Society of Kenya (LSK) elections, Owino praised the process for its peaceful and orderly conduct so far.
“We are nearing an electioneering year in 2027, and we need leaders who will uphold the constitution and ensure fairness in all electoral processes,” Owino said.
“We are nearing an electioneering year in 2027, and we need leaders who will uphold the constitution and ensure fairness in all electoral processes,” Owino said.
The MP expressed hope that Kenya’s national elections could emulate the calm and decorum witnessed during the LSK voting.
Owino’s comments come amid rising concerns over political tension and electoral disputes in previous elections.
He emphasized that strong institutions and credible leadership are key to safeguarding democratic principles and ensuring peaceful transitions of power.
“LSK’s elections demonstrate that when rules are followed and leaders are accountable, peace and transparency can prevail,” he added.
Political analysts note that Owino’s remarks highlight the growing importance of law and order in Kenya’s political discourse ahead of the 2027 polls.
Voters have previously expressed frustration with irregularities, delays, and contested results, which at times sparked unrest.
Owino also underscored the role of civil society in promoting electoral integrity and encouraging citizen participation without intimidation.
He urged all Kenyans to support systems that promote transparency and reject leaders who undermine institutions for personal gain.
LSK election officials have so far maintained decorum, reflecting a professional and mature electoral process within the society.
Observers say the ongoing elections could serve as a model for other sectors facing governance challenges.
Owino concluded by appealing to youth and first-time voters to actively engage in the democratic process and hold leaders accountable.
The MP’s message is clear: credible leadership, respect for law, and peaceful conduct are essential for Kenya’s stability as it approaches another high-stakes electoral period.
