Police in Nairobi are continuing investigations into the mysterious death of Zaituni Kavaya, who lost her life last week after falling from a building in Kilimani where she worked.
The case has drawn public concern, with her family and the domestic workers’ union demanding answers regarding the circumstances surrounding her final moments.
A postmortem examination conducted earlier this week concluded that Kavaya died from blunt force trauma, a finding that fueled speculation about whether her fall was accidental or the result of foul play.
On Wednesday, her relatives and union representatives staged a protest, calling for justice and urging police to intensify their probe.
Fresh details have since emerged after Citizen Digital obtained video footage that appears to capture the moments before the tragedy.
In the footage, a man dressed in a white shirt is seen interacting with Kavaya on the fifth floor of the building. He briefly holds her before letting her go.
Kavaya is then seen moving from the fifth floor to the fourth floor, where she encounters three women. They appear to speak to her, but she continues her descent until she reaches the third floor. There, she engages in conversation with unidentified individuals for several moments.
The situation appears to worsen at that point. The footage shows her struggling to steady herself along the third-floor section of the building.
Unlike the upper floors, that level is enclosed with glass panels, leaving her with no visible place to hold on. Moments later, the sequence ends in her fatal fall.
Investigators are now reviewing the video as part of their inquiries to piece together the chain of events. Police have not disclosed whether the man seen in the footage or the other individuals who interacted with Kavaya have been questioned.
